Judy Sue Dixson | Retired Elementary School Teacher | Manchester GATE

Judy Sue DixsonUpon achieving a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Fresno State University in 1966, Judy Sue Dixson was certain she wished to spearhead a career in education. She joined the Fresno Unified School District in 1985, serving as a mentor teacher for one year and lead teacher with its California Science Implementation Network in 1993 and 1994. From there, Ms. Dixson continued to forge her path as a teacher at the California Elementary Mathematics Initiative in Sacramento. Returning to Fresno, she excelled as a teacher of the California Elementary Mathematics Initiative in 1994 and 1995 and teacher of the Fresno Unified School District for grades three through five from 1966 to 2002. Most recently, from 1983 until her retirement in 2002, she excelled as a teacher at the Manchester Gifted and Talented Education Elementary School (GATE).

Despite settled into her retirement, Ms. Dixson remains aware of her industry through affiliation with the California Retired Teachers Association. Likewise, since 2002, she has offered her services as a tutor and volunteer through organizations such as Samaritan Women. Ms. Dixson is also actively involved in the prayer team at New Covenant Community Church, having been appointed to secretary in 2015. Reflecting on her three decade-long career, she attributes her vast success to God, as well as the various knowledgeable and talented colleagues she has worked with over the years. Finding great enjoyment in her career, she learned that no student learns the same as another and that learning continues beyond the classroom at all ages.  Looking ahead, Ms. Dixson plans to continue enjoying her hobbies of quilting, knitting, square and round line dancing, camping and traveling throughout the United States.
